Awana Grand Prix!

The kids made their own cars and competed in the Awana Grand Prix this weekend. All the kid's made it to the semi-finals and our good friend, Kayt, won the championship! It was very exciting. Following the races, Dakota and Kaylee got to sit in a real race car! Kaylee seems to be taking the race quite seriously, lol!

Weeks Thirteen and Fourteen: Early Greeks

These weeks we talked about who were the earliest Greek people and where they lived. We focused on Minoans and Mycenaeans. We also discussed god and godesses of ancient Greece. We made "fresco's" which were a type of art where you paint while the plaster is still wet...Here are the kid's working, we listened to music from the time period as we worked...it was beautiful. Their assignment was to make a copy of the famous bull-leapers fresco from Knossos.

Week Twelve: Ancient Americas

This week we have been learning about northern Native Americans and how they lived in small, isolated tribes. We studied the distinct aspects of Maya culture. In this project, we were learning how to weave using a simple loom. The kids decided they would not like making their own clothing!

New Bikes!

All the kiddo's got new bikes for Christmas!!!

All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth!

We had such a wonderful Christmas...here is a picture of our Christmas tree! Also, both Dakota and Jamie were missing their two front teeth for Christmas this year!!!

My little readers!

I told Dakota to push his sister in the swing while I made lunch...when I went out to check on them, I found them both reading novels in the swing...it was too cute!

Weeks Seven thru Nine: Mt. Sinai and Jewish studies

We've been plugging away at our studies in all subjects...it has been a very interesting journey to say the least! In week seven, we focused on understanding the three things God did during the time the Israelites camped at Mt. Sinai. First, He made a covenant with Israel as a people. Then, through Moses, he gave His Law, which taught the people how to live justly before Him. Finally, again through Moses, He gave the Israelites a means to have unbroken fellowship with Him; the Tabernacle worship and sacrifices.

We learned all about Jewish holidays and the Jewish Calendar, the Ark of the Covenant, and the Tabernacle. It was really neat to learn about Jewish Holidays during the Christmas season, as we were able to talk about them as they came on the calendar. Kaylee has been working on learning the calendar. We set up a "Family Calendar" that has stickers representing all of our weekly activities. Kaylee has really grown with being able to find the dates and know what is coming up. We've also been working diligently on our Language Arts studies with our friends. I am teaching a Spalding class for eight homeschooling students and it has been such a blessing for all of us!
