Heaven's Special Child

Author presently unknown

A meeting was held quite far from earth,
it's time again for another birth
said the angels to the Lord above;

This special child will need much love
his progress may be very slow,
accomplishment he may not show.
And he'll require extra care,
from the folks he meets down there.

He may not run or laugh or play,
his thoughts may seem quite far away.
In many ways he won't adapt, and he'll
be known as handicapped.

So let's be careful where he is sent, we want
his life to be content.

Please, Lord, find the good friends who,
will do a special job for you.

They will not realize it right away, the leading
role they're asked to play.
But with this child sent from above, comes

Stronger faith and richer love.
And soon they will know the privileges given,
In caring for their gift from Heaven.
Their precious charge, so meek and mild, in
Heaven's very special child.

My sweet Justin!

Right after getting home from the funeral, I found out that the court had officially "severed" Justin from his birth parents. In 15 days, I will be allowed to officially start the adoption process which will be final in the Spring! We are so incredibly blessed that God chose our family for this little angel.

My Amazing Son

OK, so Monday was the funeral and a very kind and generous person called me on Saturday and allowed me to use her "buddy" ticket for half price to allow a family member to come with me. Dakota really wanted to go see his birth father and he is a great traveler. We set off on Sunday and had no problems getting our flights, etc. We were in Vermont by dinner time and Dakota had an amazing evening of fun with his birth dad. Then the next day was the funeral...I helped prep the food and it was set up sooo beautifully, my family did a wonderful job on every little detail, it is exactly the way Dad would have wanted it to be. Following the funeral, the immediate family had a huge dinner, there were a lot of us and that was fun too. When we went back to the hotel, Dakota's birth father was waiting for him unexpectedly as there was suppose to be a huge storm. They had more fun and Dakota was in heaven! We got up at 4 am to start our travels back to Arizona, our first plane was delayed an hour with technical difficulties, but with determination, lots of running and moving sidewalks, we made it to our connection flight in Washington, DC to Phx...after about an hour in the air, we found out the was a mechanical problem and we were landing in Charlottesville, NC...oh boy! So we landed, the flight got canceled...Well after waiting behind hundreds of people, we found out that they re-routed Dakota and I on different planes and they said since he's on standby he wouldn't get on anyway! Yikes! They recommended staying the night, but my gut feeling thought Wed would be busier anyway, so I said no. We waited for a flight and we missed the flight, they were one seat to short! Dakota dropped to the ground sobbing and screaming, "I'm going to be stuck here forever"...don't get feeling too bad for him yet, there's more to the story! So the flight attendant was beside herself with his wallowing and said, "I'm going to get you out of here." She worked some magic and sent us across the entire airport to a flight back to Penn...the second she gave us the tickets, the "distraught" Dakota jumped up and said, "Yes, it worked!"....Oh my gosh, where did he learn this??? He didn't have a tear on his face... I didn't care, I gave him a high five and off we went running again. So we got on the plane to Penn...at this point we'd been traveling 13 hours and only an hour from Vermont...sigh...we had a long layover and then got on a plane to Phx...this is when things get interesting....Dakota decided to tell the stewardess of our long day and his "fake crying" he calls it....which he is quite proud. The stewardess was so impressed she allowed Dakota to help her hand out drinks and collect trash the whole flight....again, he's in heaven. To top it all off, the pilot invited him up front, allowed him to sit in the captains chair and explained all the everything to him, even adjusted the seat so Dakota could reach the petals. Every flight we were on, he made friends with so many people, interestingly, his name means "friend"...I got compliment after compliment about how smart, cute, and polite he is (I blame homeschooling, except for the cute part, lol). So, there you have it, my little amazing traveler took a horrendous day and made it into a once of a life time experience. I am so amazed, proud, and in awe of him.

We are going to be writing a thank you letter to US Airways...it took 22 hours, but we got home for Thanksgiving. And again, thank you to the generous person who helped us get Dakota on the flight to begin with!
